The Julia de Burgos Family Center is a place for bilingual social, educational, and community activities for the whole family.


Hours
Office: 8:30-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
After School Program: 3:30-5:45 pm
Evening activites: 6:00-9:00 pm


Babysitting provided for all classes and events.
Programs and Services
Case Management/Referrals
Case managers provide intake and assessment of the needs of new Family Center members and can distribute emergency food or clothing. The case managers also make referrals for outside services, counsel those in crisis, and conduct intensive, ongoing, family-based case management, including home visits, as needed.
Hours: Services available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Parent Education and Support
This programs offers informational workshops and support groups for parents and guardians. We accept referrals from other agencies, as well as self-referred clients.
Hours:
  • Parenting Classes in English-Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Parenting in Spanish-Thursdays, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • De Padre a Padre Spanish support group-Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • "Community Assistants" workshops-training and support for parents working as volunteers at Fairhill Elementary-Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    Futuros Afterschool Program
    This program provides academic support and enrichment activities for students ages 11-15.

    REAAP Stars, Reasonable Effort in Assessment and Prevention
    This youth development program helps kids avoid drug and alcohol use, increase school attendance, and improve their grades and test scores. Activities and services include: crisis intervention, support groups, workshops and rap sessions, referral services, field trips and community projects.
    Hours: Groups meet from 3:30-6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
    Counseling and family case management provided as needed.

    United Families
    United Families is an active parent leadership team. They plan social, recreational, and educational events and work together on community projects.
    Hours: Meetings are held every Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

    Parent-led Programming
    Parent leaders provide a variety of classes during the day and evening hours. Current offerings include:

  • Bakery-Mondays, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Cosmetology-Wednesdays, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

    Adult Education
    Hours: GED/ESL classes are held from Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

    Beacon Community Center
    The Julia de Burgos Beacon offers a safe space for children, youth, families, and community residents of all ages to spend time and learn together. The Beacon provides an array of services and activities that support community safety and organization, educational assistance and enrichment, youth development and leadership, and employment and training.
